Jiyugaoka is one of my favorite towns in Tokyo and I love discovering new cafes and restaurants in this area. I recently picked up a magazine issue that features places to eat along the Toyoko train line so I am planning to try a bunch of places from these neighborhoods :) As a side note, foreigners in Tokyo tend to live near the Roppongi, Azabujuban, and Hiroo areas. On the other hand, living along the Toyoko-line and the Denentoshi-line tend to be the most popular among young Japanese adults.

Anyhow, Bloom’s cafe is a tiny cafe in Jiyugaoka that seats only 9 people so it may be hard to find a seat on weekends or during lunch time. Bloom’s specializes in baked sweets so we decided to try their Quiche Plate (1000yen) and their Cake salé Plate (1000yen). The ambiance was very cozy and there was a grandma dinning by herself in one seat and 2 young girls tea-ing at another table. It’s places like this that make Jiyugaoka so loveable.

Found this cute cafe in the very traditional town of Kamakura. It’s usually hard to get seated right away at popular lunch spots in Kamakura but we got lucky and hardly had to wait. Perhaps it was because we got there towards the end of their lunch time service.

Cobakaba only serves 2 menu set options + a take away bento box per day. Of the 2 set meals that they serve, one changes daily and the other changes monthly. We tried their daily dish because their monthly dish was already sold out. We were very happy with their lunch overall: healthy, yummy, and all of that goodness for only 850yen? Love cafes like this.

Found a nice organic cafe right by Gakugeidaigaku station. Their food is good, ambiance is nice, and for the price I can definitely picture myself coming here often. They have a daily special that includes a salad with 15 different types of veggies, a main dish (changes daily), seasonal soup, brown rice or bread, and a small drink all for just 1150yen. Their fluffy omurice with lots of veggies marinated in tomato sauce also includes a salad and small drink for 1050yen. Their organic muffin lunch set with salad is 950yen. Everything I’ve had so far has been good and I especially enjoyed their rosemary black pepper organic muffin.

They also serve desserts as well as pastries to take home. Come check out this cafe if you are ever in this area.

Found a great hole-in-the-wall Thai Curry place! Pickeenoo makes curry that is good for your body with a well balanced combination of meat, vegetables, herbs and spices. The coconut milk drink adds a perfect balance to this spicy curry. We had the Salad (600yen), Green Curry (8ooyen), and Country Curry (800yen). All of the curry’s are so delicious that it’s hard to eat just one.

This place is so popular that the curry often times run out before the 9PM closing time. We couldn’t even dine here the first time we tried because they were sold out early and the second time we went the restaurant closed a few guests after we arrived — at around 7:45pm. If you are craving for some good Thai curry, I highly suggest this place. However,  it’s not the kind of place you can relax and stay for hours at. You pretty much eat, pay, and then leave.

Found a cute melon pan shop right outside/underneath the Gakugeidaigaku train station in an area called “Gakudai-Ichiba”. Apparently this place just opened on April 11th, 2012 and it’s one of melonpan factory’s ten locations. The place smells amazing when you pass by… you simply can’t walk by without buying one.

Their most popular flavor is the plain original (170yen), and it’s pretty good! Naturally, it’s best eaten right when you buy it. I’ve also tried their maple flavor but it’s not that much different than the plain so I would stick to the original. They also have some other more wacky flavors such as strawberry, chocolate, green tea, cinamon, caramel and orange if you’re feeling adventurous… If that’s not enough, they also sell croissants and apple pie. A good place to grab a snack!
