Cafe Z is another hidden gem in the back-alleys of Omotesando. Located on the 2nd floor of a clothing store called “Cabane de Zucca”, this cafe is a nice and quiet place to relax. I’ve dined here for lunch and also stopped by just for tea. Everything i’ve had here has been pretty good and has had decent-sized portions as well.

Pictured above: Spicy Tomato noodles (1200yen), Avocado steak burger with paprika sauce and rice (1200yen), and the Roasted Chicken flavored of Tandori Masala (1200yen). I very much enjoyed their royal milk tea (730yen) and the cake (700yen). Loved sitting on the balcony/terrace, it felt like we were in the country side for a second. So peaceful and surrounded by trees, it’s a great place to chill.

PS: Cafe Z has menu’s in both Japanese and English.

Opened on December 25th, 2012 in Omotesando, this cafe/restaurant serves tasty panini’s. From the spacious terrace seating to the entrance way, chairs, beautiful tiled floors, wood ceiling and the nice bathroom, you can tell there was an excellent designer behind this place and no expense was spared. It’s hard to imagine how much all of these details cost but it’s not just beautiful, it’s also cozy. We visited this place on a weekend and they have a different menu than during weekdays (as most places in Japan do).

They give you a choice between two options for the bread on each panini you order, Focaccia or Ciabatta. We ordered the clam chowder (500yen) and the “Salsiccia Verdure Panini” which includes Italian sausage, grilled vegetables, lettuce, rucola and spicy salsa sauce for 1200yen on Ciabatta bread — mmmmmm! We also ordered the “Pollo lattuga Panini” which comes with smoked chicken, lettuce, rucola, and tartar egg on focaccia bread for 850yen. The clam chowder was more watery and different from what we expected but both of the panini’s had such fresh vegetables and ingredients with tasty bread so we enjoyed both of them. The service was also very good. We actually had to wait about 5 minutes before we got seated and they served us free tea. Definitely gets some brownie points for that ;)

PS: Panino Vino is owned by the same owner as AW Kitchen.

Brooklyn Ribbon Fries is one of the stores inside of 246 COMMON, a hip outdoor mobile/trailer community in the middle of Omotesando. We couldn’t help but notice these curly ribbon fries as we were passing by so we ordered the Small “spicy ribbon fries” for 500yen and it took about 5~10min for it to be served. The wait felt a little long but it was definitely worth it. We added some mayo on top of these crispy warm ribbon fries and they were so good. Even though we ordered the spicy one, they weren’t really spicy at all. Either way, this is a perfect street food snack in the middle of the cold winter and it made us happy.

246 Common is an outdoor mobile/trailer food court/farmer’s market community in the middle of Aoyama/Omotesando. They have over 20 or so very small shops which range from flower & clothing shops to bakeries, restaurants or drinks/snacks. If you’re not paying attention, you could easily miss this little gem in the middle of the busy city. Everything at 246 Common is located outdoors but there are two tents with heaters inside as well if you plan to dine here. If you’re ever in this area, I recommend checking it out.

This is what we snacked on when we came here :)

A to Z Cafe

This popular cafe is shockingly crowded for being in the most random spot… I’m really not sure how people know about this place on the fifth floor of an unassuming building at the end of a small side street? Perhaps there’s a lot of Yoshitomo Nara fans because this cafe is designed by him. Yoshitomo Nara is a famous pop artist from Japan who has had exhibits in places such as MoMA in NY and Moca in LA. This place was recommended to us by a friend so we decided to check it out since we were in the area.

As soon as you walk in, it’s filled with Yoshitomo’s work and there is a small cottage in the center that has many of his artwork pieces inside. The food was pretty good and we saw many couples and friends who were there to enjoy the afternoon. My only wish is that they differentiated the smoking and non-smoking sections a little better. A quiet neighborhood place to take a break from shopping in the hustle and bustle of Omotesando.
