Happy 200th post!

So excited that my simple pleasure in life, eating and taking pictures, has already helped me to produce 200 posts. This site started simply as a hobby but I’ve noticed that there are many people who share my passion and I hope my site has provided some inspiration, happiness, and a taste of Tokyo dining for you.

I have to say it’s been quite a ride blogging thus far and a few exciting opportunities have come along the way. I am honored and excited to share that I am going to be a part of a French film documentary(!!) related to pastries around the world and I will blog about this experience in the near future (very small part). Some of my photography have made it to travel guide books, other websites, and most importantly, it’s been really exciting to have more readers and fans as I continue to blog. Just wanted to say a big Thank You! to all my readers/fans. I really appreciate it and enjoy all your emails and comments :)

I don’t usually share my professional work here but above are a glimpse of an engagement session I did in Shibuya a few weeks ago of an adorable Japanese/Italian couple♡ Since I constantly get the same question of what camera I use, I’d like to let you know that most of the photos you see on my blog have been shot with the Canon S100. It’s an awesome point & shoot camera and I’ve recommended it to quite a few friends who all love it (FYI: there’s a newer version out now – the S110). When I do have my DSLR with me, I shoot with the Canon 5DmarkII with a variety of lenses. I don’t usually like to bust out my heavy/large DSLR when I dine because I look like a paparazzi… but I have been carrying it around with me more frequently.

And last but not least, the cafe pictured above is called “Daylight Kitchen”. We only had tea + treats so I can’t quite give my input on the food yet but it’s definitely my kind of cafe ambiance ;) Felt like an oasis in the middle of this super busy city.

Hope you all are enjoying the summer time and thanks again for following me on Tokyoeats!

xoxo,
Maki

Found a lovely cozy curry house that serves authentic Indian-style curry. The place is tiny and only seats 8 guests at a time. All the details like the chairs, menus, and drink coasters have a nice handmade touch and the place is adorably decorated. Although the service was slow, many people happily waited in line. We ended up waiting about 30min outside and another 30 min inside before we actually received our food.

This place seems to be run by a husband and wife team and most of the regulars already know that the service is slow so they bring a book with them or kill time with their smartphones while they patiently wait for their food. We ordered the Lunch Set for 1230yen which includes 2 different types of curry. We went with the Chicken and vegetable. The portions are rather small but this place really knows how to make tasty Indian-style curry and you can tell that the owners really put a lot of love into their food. Everything was delicious and I already want to go back. Seems like the owners really love India and often travel there. The restaurant is frequently closed so make sure you check when they are open on their website if you decide to visit. They also have a take-out section (make sure you call in advance if you plan to use it).

Tsukemen with organic veggies?!

Love.

Camino is located In the residential neighborhood of Ikejiriohashi/Mishuku (right next to Shibuya). It’s a small shop that serves tsukemen along with organically grown vegetables from the Tochigi prefecture. Just take a look at the amount of beautiful fresh vegetables in the dish pictured above! Some are served raw while others are grilled. Every single veggie also had a strong flavor to it which made it even more delicious.

This shop has a few different broths of ramen and tsukemen, but they are famous for their vegetable tsukemen dish. We ordered the “Vegetable tsukemen + egg + Futsumori(regular amount of noodles)” for 1250yen and “Shio Vegetable Tsukemen”(1050yen). Since it comes with a lot of veggies, their regular tsukemen comes with slightly less noodles so most men tend to order the “Futsumori” for an extra 100yen. In fact, I didn’t get the futsumori and regretted since I found myself wanting more noodles! Both broths were yummy but we liked the original tsukemen broth a little more. Their broth is made from tonkotsu + gyokai = pork broth + fish broth.

Ramen and tsukemen tend to be considered an unhealthy choice nutrtion-wise, but when you include this much veggies in your meal, you don’t feel quite so bad. This tsukemen might have become my personal fav already. yummmmm
