Taiwan Diary: Taipei

We recently visited Taipei, Taiwan. Although it’s not related to Tokyo, I thought I’d share our vacay and a little on some of the Taipei eats we enjoyed :)

We’ve been wanting to visit Taiwan for quite some time now, and since we have friends there and the price was right on flights, we decided to go! This was our first time in Taiwan. To sum it up, we basically focused on our highest priority: eat, eat, and eat!

Before we go visit anywhere, I usually do some major research and make a list of places I’m interested in visiting. For this trip, I made a long list of places I was interested in and our friends narrowed it down to what we should do the most in our limited time and helped to plan out our basic schedule. Overall, I have to say we couldn’t have planned this trip any better. We did everything we wanted to do and way more. Special thanks to J&J and Miss I who made our bellies so FULL, drove us everywhere, and hung out with us and made our trip fun and memorable!

A Day Trip to Kawagoe: Part 2

In case you missed my post on Part 1, Kawagoe is located in Saitama prefecture which is only an hour away from Shibuya via the Fukutoshin Line. Here are some things we ate during our day trip at the Kurazukuri-zone. I recommend coming here hungry as there are just too many goodies to eat and we got so full that we couldn’t try everything we wanted to.

I also highly recommend stopping by at KOEDO KURARI which is located on your way to the Kurazukuri-zone. They have so many souvenirs and goodies to buy as gifts, a cafe, restaurant, sake bar, and even an osozai bento shop!

PS: 皆さま、素敵なゴールデンウィークをお過ごし下さい★

A Day Trip to Kawagoe: Part 1

Kawagoe is located in the Saitama prefecture only 1 hour away from Shibuya. I probably would have never thought of visiting Kawagoe before, but with the new Fukutoshin and Toyoko line connection, it made it so easy to get there that we had to give it a try. If you want to experience a traditional Japanese historical town near Tokyo, definitely come check this place out!

We left Shibuya around 11am and got to Kawagoe by noon. From the train station, you have to walk through the shotengai and it takes about 15-20min to reach this historic area named “Kurazukuri – zone”. The walk is not bad at all and you might get distracted at the shops along the way before you reach the old town (as we did…)

As soon as we reached the historic area though – wow, how awesome is this place? We had so much fun exploring this area. So many options of food & snacks to eat, traditional items/souvenirs to buy, people dressed in Kimonos, and just an overall great atmosphere. The main street is pretty busy with cars which kind of ruins the historic feeling but overall we enjoyed visiting here and got back to Tokyo just in time for dinner. My next post (Part 2) will share some of the foods/snacks we ate during our trip to Kawagoe.

Here’s a link to how to get to Kurazukuri-zone from Kawagoe-station. It’s in Japanese but hopefully the visual will give you an idea on how to get there. Kawagoe Sansaku

{  Hello Spring!  }

Hello Spring!
Hello Spring!
Hello Spring!
Hello Spring!

It’s getting warmer and warmer (and more windy…) in Tokyo and I am loving this spring season. Here are some photos from a few weekends ago. It’s so nice to be able to walk outside without a coat and eat lunch at terrace seating. Will be posting a nice lunch spot hidden away in Omotesando next ♡

I recently got a really touching email from a reader and made me so happy that I have kept up with tokyoeats. So I wanted to thank those of you who have reached out to show your love and support. I really appreciate it!

xo,
Maki

Cherry blossoms - Ohanami 2013

Cherry blossoms bloomed a little early this year in Tokyo and we had a beautiful warm weekend filled with gorgeous flowers. If you’re in Tokyo now until hopefully next weekend, you are in luck to see these beauties at their prime. Too bad cherry blossoms only last about 1~2 weeks… but that is why it’s a highly anticipated event and season here in Japan. We had a cold winter this year so i’m very happy that Spring is finally here :)
