This is a follow-up post from the Gontran Cherrier Tokyo Bakery one. The Gontran Cherrier Tokyo has a restaurant cafe on the 2nd floor and I recently visited to have a light meal there since we were hungry at a weird time of the day. We ordered the salad plate (1000yen), onion soup (780yen), and soup of the day which was a carrot potage (680yen). Everything was just OK compared to their 1F bakery where all their baked goods were absolutely great. I would recommend going to the bakery over the cafe, but if you want a nice and quiet area to tea or relax, then I suggest the 2F.

GONTRAN CHERRIER TOKYO recently opened (at the end of August) in one of the most convenient locations just one minute from Shibuya station and it’s one of my favorite bakery cafe/restaurants that I’ve been to recently. I loved everything about it – from the style of pastries they served, to the cute french ambiance of the store. I’ve liked everything I’ve tried so far from this place and the ease of access is just unbeatable! The bakery also has seating on the 1F so you can eat your pastry’s/baked goods there as well.

PS: I also dined at the second floor cafe/restaurant so I will post about that next.

Even though we came here right when it opened, we had to wait in line for about an hour to dine here. La Bodega is located on the 7F of Shbiuya Hikarie and is clearly very popular considering the line was so long and it was one of the few restaurants that had a line.

We finally got seated and ordered 2 different kinds of paella. “Paella de Marsiscos” a sea food paella for 1600yen and “Paella de Chorizo y Setas” a chroizo and mushroom paella for 1500yen. They both come with an anti pasto plate which wasn’t very impressive but the paella was pretty good. The flavoring was strong and the portion was large. The garlic mayo that comes on the side was also good.

The location is great since it’s right by Shibuya station so if you’re craving for paella and you don’t mind a bit of a wait, check this place out!

{  Shokkan — 食幹  }

Shokkan is located In the basement floor of a random building in Shibuya but let me tell you this place was awesome. We went during lunch time and we knew it would be good as soon as we noticed the wait outside the door before it even opened and how it was completely packed within a few minutes after opening. This Japanese restaurant serves three options during lunch: Tsukemen, Today’s Fish Set, or Today’s Meat Set (each for 1000yen).

I highly recommend their Tsukemen. The quality is quite high considering that it’s not officially a tsukemen or ramen house. The tsukemen comes in 3 different flavors: Soy, Sesame Miso, or Curry. We ordered the soy and I really loved it. It’s nice that it comes with all sorts of toppings and also includes a choice of rice or rice crackers so you can eat it as a porridge at the end. Their other dish is a Fish of the day plate and it was Shrimp and Eggplant on the day I visited. It was good as well but the tsukemen was the highlight. Looks like they have this restaurant at Soramachi too with a different menu. Check it out!

{  Gari gari kun Festival  }

Gari gari kun Festival 2012 Summer

Gari gari kun Festival 2012 Summer

It’s getting real hot and humid in Tokyo these days, the summer has definitely arrived. On days like this, I crave for ice cream, shaved ice, and popsicles. One of the famous popsicles here is called “Gari gari kun”. They have many flavors such as Soda, Grape, Pear, Grapefruit, Orange, Cola, etc, but their current most popular flavor is Pear. I happened to try the pear and it was so good and refreshing.

Anyhow, they are currently having a gari gari kun festival at Shibuya Parco and they have 7 selections of popsicles for only 100yen each. They also sell some accessories if you are a gari gari kun fan so if you happen to be in the area, stop by! The festival is from 7/14~7/25. If you can’t stop by the festival, you can still pick up your popsicle at most convenience stores and super markets :)
