This Chinese restaurant in Jiyugaoka has amazing chicken broth salt noodles (鶏白湯塩そば) which are similar to a golden chicken-broth ramen soup! The soup is delicious and it’s great that they give you just a little bit of rice so you can enjoy it as a porridge at the end.

Two of us ordered the chicken broth salt noodles (鶏白湯塩そば) lunch set which is a 3-course meal and the other two ordered the Shark-fin (フカヒレ姿煮) lunch special that is a 5-course meal.

– The Chicken Broth Salt Noodles Lunch set includes a steamed vegetable plate, main dish, and a dessert for 1500yen.
– The Shark-fin lunch special includes: a steamed vegitable plate, shrimp mayo salad, main dish, half sized chicken broth salt noodles, and a dessert for 3000yen.

I highly recommend making reservations in advance if you plan to come here. This place also currently happens to be the highest rated restaurant on a Japanese food review site in Jiyugaoka and I can see why.

“Today’s Special” is one of the hip and cute shops in Jiyugaoka that I often like to stroll through whenever I’m in town. They have all sorts of items from home and toiletries all the way to food or kitchen appliances. On the 3rd floor of the shop they also have a cafe called “Today’s Table”. It’s a nice chill cafe that many hipsters and young moms with kids frequent and I enjoyed the cool ambiance here. The food was just ok but it’s still a nice place to take a break or grab something to eat while shopping in the neighborhood.

PS: I’m back from my vacay and had a great time :) I’m really glad that fall is almost here as well…

I haven’t really craved or eaten bagels in Japan yet but after passing by this bagel cafe a few times now we finally decided to give it a try :) It was a rainy day but it still got packed by lunch time with families, friends, couples and some single guests who were just spending their morning reading a book.

Junoesque serves a wide range of bagels, all the way from classics such as plain and sesame to Japanese flavors such as edamame-spinach and black soy bean. I ordered the smoke salmon and cream cheese sandwich on a tomato bagel which included a small salad and drink for 780yen and it was pretty tasty. Couldn’t believe how cheap it was but then the portion was quite small so it made sense. The other plate we ordered was the lunch set for 780yen which included the bagel sandwich of the day, small salad, french fries, and a drink. All in all it was a nice easy breakfast/lunch spot and I recommend it for families with young children / babies as well.

Found a Thai restaurant in Jiyugaoka and my friends and I were all pleasantly surprised with how good it was. As summer is kicking in to full effect here in Tokyo it’s so hot and humid outside that the nice air conditioning in this restaurant felt SO good. The yellow Thai curry (1000yen) and the egg noodle soup (900yen) were both good, the pad woon sen (1050yen) was a little strong on the flavoring, and the Gapao (1000yen) was a bit spicy but good. The staff also was very attentive and kind. Will be back here whenever I have my Thai food cravings here in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Tokyo.

Found a nice Japanese restrauant in the midst of Jiyugaoka which is typically known for having more cafes and cute shops. We went here for lunch and it was a great experience: good food + attentive service. I had the wappa, which is a traditional Japanese dish cooked in special round containers made of thin wooden sheets. It comes with a salad, main dish, drink, and dessert for 1780yen. The other lunches were either 1600yen~1800yen and we thought it was a pretty good deal for the amount and quality of the food. If you are craving Japanese food in this hip town of Jiyugaoka, check out AEN :)
