Just wanted to share the cutest packaging ever which I found on this pudding dessert from Quatre bakery. The pudding is actually inside of a real egg shell and when you purchase the dessert to go, it comes in this most adorable egg carton. I was amazed how they were able to slice off the top of the egg shell so smoothly. I’ve always thought Japanese places have some of the most creative and best best packaging but this was just so cute, I had to share :) The pudding itself was just ok though… I’m glad I happened to have an individual egg holder at home or it would have been very difficult to plate them!

PS: This dessert is pronounced “ufu pudding” (うふぷりん)
PPS: Merry Christmas!!

I saw this place on TV a while back and ever since then I’ve wanted to try it. It’s a Kaitensushi place (conveyor-belt sushi), inside of soramachi and we got there right when the place opened at 11am. However, there was already a long line ahead of us (maybe 100 people?)… amazing how many people lined up before it even opened (The line was still long even after we finished eating…). However, Kaitensushi has a pretty fast turn-around time so we only waited about 40 mins and then got a seat.

This kaitensushi restaurant is originally from Hokkaido, where it’s famous for getting amazingly fresh and high quality fish with good portions so it’s easy to see why people in Tokyo are lining up to eat at this Tokyo location. I must say the cost performance is high and the service was good as well. It’s nice to have such a lively environment at a kaitensushi place where the sushi chefs cut the freshest fish of the day right in front of you, prepare it and then bring it directly to your table. This place also serves hamburg sushi, french fries, fruits, and desserts so non-sushi eaters can dine with you as well. Overall, I wouldn’t mind coming back if there wasn’t such a long line!

Here are some photos from a home party we had recently with the ladies. Everything was homemade, and I am fortunate to be surrounded by women who are very talented cooks! It was potluck so we each made a dish or two and I think it came together quite well. I’ve been eating way too much these days…

Chum Apartments

Chum Apartments is a hidden cafe in the middle of a residential area in Meguro. Apparently they are often closed during the day time due to photo/magazine shoots or other special events because of their really cute ambiance. I would say it’s a mixture of Asian, Morrocan and modern decor. It’s an interesting cafe as you can come here for a variety of different occasions. Most come here for lunch, tea time, or dinner. However, there’s also a sushi bar, a shop on the 2nd floor, and you can even get married here! (it’s open for events).

My friend and I came here for tea and it was relaxing, chill, and spacious. It’s the kind of cafe where you can stay at for hours without being bothered. We both had the chai latte that came with honey for 700yen. It was yummy. We didn’t eat any food this time but what we saw looked pretty good. Here’s a link to their online menu if you’re interested.

Loved the ambiance & decor. There were a wide range of customers from individuals just reading a book, girlfriends chit chatting, to strollers with moms and couples enjoying their afternoon together. The only thing I didn’t like is that they allow smoking inside. Regardless, check it out if you are nearby!

Brown Rice Cafe

Here are some places I recently went back to and ate at again!

Above photos are from Brown Rice Cafe in Omotesando. The set I got this time has always been sold out by the time I visit but I finally got to try it. It’s made from all vegetables/tofu and the set is 2100yen including a small dessert and organic tea or coffee. I wish this meal was served warm as it’s getting cold these days.

Ippudo Ramen

Ippudo is having a special collaboration tomato-based ramen that was presented at the Tokyo Ramen Show. You can add toppings like bacon and cheese as well. This is going on for a limited time until 12/31 and it’s worth a try!
