Introducing LA-eats.com!

Dear Friends,

I am very excited to announce Tokyo eats new sister site, LA-eats.com!

My dear friend Julie who is also a food enthusiast has recently started blogging on yummy places in and around Los Angeles, California. Julie LOVES to eat as much as I do and she always takes me to the best spots in town! We tend to have similar tastes so if you enjoy my recommendations, I’m sure you will like hers too.

Toyoko Fukutoshin Line Connected
Toyoko Fukutoshin Line Connected

On March 16, 2013, the new Shibuya Station opened connecting the Toyoko and Fukutoshin train lines. This has been huge news all over Tokyo and although this is not related to food I wanted to give you all a little more information on this.

It was rather hard for people who have been using the 48 year-old Shibuya station building to say their farewells as the above ground station has now been replaced by a new underground one on the B5F level. In light of this new opening, there will also be some special events held at Shibuya station:

★ The “Toyoko Line Shibuya Special Park” event will happen for only 3 days from March 22~24. For those of you who are train fans, this seems like it will be the event to check out as they will show case classic trains from the past and much more.

★ Uniqlo is having a special UT pop-up from March 28~April 7.

Although this new change has been causing some confusion and frustration at the new Shibuya station during the first few days, people seem to be generally in favor of it and are pleased about this new connection. Since I am a heavy Toyoko-line user, I will be definitely be making trips using the new Fukutoshin line connection.

{  New Summary Page  }

I’ve noticed I’ve accumulated quite a few posts now and my “Summary of All Posts” page was getting very long. I’ve been working on organizing it better and I’m happy to say it’s now live! Hopefully this will be an easier way to find my past posts or to search for places you might have missed before.

Maki

I recently became a Ippudo Premium Member! sigh*

As I illustrated above, you have to clear 3 stages in order to become a premium member. You have to eat a total of 60 bowls of ramen during a limited period of time to get your Premium Member’s card. I just want to clarify that I did NOT eat all 60 by myself… My friends and family gave me some of their stamps :p

When you clear each of the stages, you get some sort of perk for completing it. For the first few stages, you get a small booklet with coupons for free stuff like kaedama (extra noodles) and half gyoza. Once you clear the final level and become Premium status though, you can take up to 3 guests with you and (all of us) can enjoy a free kaedama or a free topping (flavored egg) every time you visit Ippudo for a year. Note that this is only applicable to the Ippudo Japan locations.

I also received an amazing Premium Gift Package (shown in the pictures above)! It included all of the following items:

– Ippudo ceramic bowl that says “Thank You!” at the bottom
– Ippudo original chopsticks
– Ren-geh (Chinese spoon)
– Ippudo towel
– Ippudo ramen home set (comes with akamaru and shiromaru with an extra kaedama!)
I’m very pleased with this generous gift set that they provide to their loyal customers.

2012 Top Posts

It’s almost a year since I started my blog and I’d have to say it’s been a fun and great experience. I’m surprised that I actually kept up with this but it’s nice to be able to have a catalogue of all of my favorite places in and around Tokyo on this site :) Thanks to all my friends who tagged along to try new places with me and waited to eat before every meal so that I could take pictures… :p It sure looks like I ate a lot of good food and I hope you guys got to try some of the places I shared with you or at least live vicariously through my photos. It’s been rewarding to see the growing traffic on my site and even though I’m not a food critic or a travel agent, it’s been fun sharing a taste of my life here in Japan. Thanks for following Tokyo Eats and to those who are new, welcome!

xoxo,
Maki
