Soba Combo Watanabe (Ippudo)
Soba Combo Watanabe (Ippudo)

The famous Ippudo Ramen opened a Soba House in February (2012)!

It’s located inside of an Ippudo ramen house, but it’s separated into it’s own area once you walk in. They named it “Soba Combo Watanabe” and this Ippudo is actually the only one in world that serves soba at this point. It’s pretty interesting because they use their famous pork broth soup in one of their 4 menu options. The other 3 soba come with a katsuo (bonito)-based soup.

My friend and I both tried the “Spicy Tantanmen Soba” (790yen), and thought it was pretty good but it reminded us of the peanut sauce which is often used in Thai food. When you are about to finish your tantanmen, they give you some rice to eat is as “Zosui“, which i thought was fun. The other one pictured above is the “Imoten Soba” (730yen) and it felt like more of a traditional soba. Even though the soup was quite strong, I wish I had ordered that one! It comes with Sweet Potato Tempura and you eat one with the sauce, but they advise you to eat the second one with honey as a type of dessert.

Not sure how this new concept of Ippudo Soba will do here but it’s definitely is a fun idea. The employees were very nice and the ambiance was a traditional counter space with a modern twist.

{  Brown Rice Cafe  }

Brown Rice Cafe
Brown Rice Cafe

Brown Rice Cafe serves basic vegetables that somehow taste so good. There is no fancy presentation or elaborate cooking technique. They just serve you normal veggies but they draw out the strong natural flavor of the organic vegetables and it tastes so sweet and fresh. You can really tell this cafe puts a lot of effort into choosing the best seasonal ingredients from local farmers. I would say this is a dream cafe for anyone who believes in sustainable and local supplies.

Their menu doesn’t really have proteins, but the dishes are so filling that you almost forget you’re only eating vegetables. We love their “specials” that go for 2100yen. Aside from your meal, it includes a small dessert and drink. I really wish more places like this existed because it not only tastes good, but also happens to be good for your body and for the environment.

{  Aoyama Flower Market Tea House  }

Aoyama Flower Market Tea House

Aoyama Flower Market Tea House was beyond Ah-mazing. This beautifully put together tea house is located inside of a flower store. If you are just passing by, you would never know such a gem is inside. But because of that it’s still the best kept secret in town. Actually, this tea house only recently opened less than 3 months ago. We were in awe of how much thought was put into creating this space. The tables are transparent so that you can enjoy the fresh flowers beneath them – some tables even have tiny holes in them for white roses to peek out above the glass like a vase.

Though they only offer tea (no coffee), they have a large variety including herbal, dry herbal, and special seasonal teas. They also have a small food selection – which happens to include the most delicious french toast I’ve ever had (the food rating is strictly based on the french toast we had). It was so good that my friends and I had to order another plate before the first plate was even done – and we noticed the lady behind us did the same! The service is very slow since they are under-staffed, but it’s brand new, so I can definitely look past that. The ambiance, food, and tea were so perfect together that you’ll almost certainly find yourself not wanting to leave. We certainly didn’t!

{  Welcome to Tokyo Eats  }

nR Table
nR Table

Welcome to Tokyo Eats. Good food is my favorite simple pleasure – and when it comes to good food, the city of Tokyo definitely does it best. In fact, there are more three-star Michelin rated restaurants in Japan than in France (or anywhere else in the world for that matter). Since my two biggest passions are eating and taking pictures, I decided to start a blog on what I do best and share all my favorite places in and around Tokyo! My hope is that this blog will give you a taste of the happiness that comes from the art of eating.

The cafe shown above, ‘nR Table’, is located in Omotesando – a neighborhood with lots of cute boutiques, high-end luxury stores, and lots of happening cafes and restaurants. nR Table is slightly off the main street in this area and is on the 3rd floor of a clothing store. The ambiance is both soft and light, with comfortable and natural wooden tables and chairs. It’s a nice and cozy place to go with friends to chitchat and enjoy some slow time after a long day of shopping.

PS: The girl in the top picture is not me – she is my friend, who you will probably see frequently on my blog.
