Kimukatsu was supposedly THE place to go to a few years ago but it has calmed down now. It was recommended to us + we saw a feature for it on tv so we decided to check it out. Kimukatsu is a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) place but their tonkatsu is made out of many many thin layers of pork which makes it very soft. They say it is like a pork mille-feuille.

We tried the green onion and salt, sour plum and shiso, cheese, and black pepper pork cutlets. I personally liked the black pepper the most, but cheese was also up there. As pictured above, they also have an english menu so it’s easy for foreigners to stop by.

Matsunosuke NY is an apple pie shop opened by Akiko Hirano. The shop is named after her grandfather Matunosuke. It’s a small sweets shop that also serves cheesecakes and pancakes but we only tried their apple pies — the “big apple pie” & the “sour cream apple pie”. They were both good and not overly sweet – which is a big plus for me since I’m not a fan of super sweet desserts.

If you’re lucky enough to get a window seat, you’ll be able to people watch all the fashionable people passing by through the large window. It’s a nice place to visit for a tea/coffee break or an afternoon snack.

kin no torikara

Kin-no-torikara is a street food spot along the Shibuya-center-gai that sells karaage aka. fried chicken. There’s a couple locations but this is the first location that opened in Tokyo. It’s always crowded with young adults for a quick snack and it’s surprisingly pretty good for 280yen. You can get 1.5x for 380yen, and double the amount for 500yen. What’s awesome is they have all sorts of condiments to add to your fried chicken. The toppings are all ranked by popularity so you can see which ones people like — I tried most of them! My favorite topping is the original spice + mayo combination. It’s a nice quick snack to grab if you are in Shibuya.

Freshly baked potato-chips shop? Yes Please!!

Only in Japan will you see a store dedicated just to potato chips. This store sells two types of freshly baked chips — Regular and Cringled. As a potato-chip lover, I tried the cringled version with the salted butter topping. It was such a fun experience since I’ve never had potato chips that were JUST made in front of my eyes. The chips were still warm and soft but crispy. They have all sorts of toppings so it’s worth coming back to try other flavors. The Medium size (which is shown in the picture above) was 220 yen and the Large is 280yen. The price for the toppings varies depending on which ones you select.

They also sell all sorts of packaged potato chip flavors that are not seen at regular supermarkets. What’s nice is that even though the store is quite small, they have seats on the 2nd floor if you want to sit down and enjoy your chips. It was crowded since it just opened on December 7, 2011 + it’s located on the most crowded street, Takeshita-doori, in Harajyuku. Stop by for a snack if you are around the area!

揚げたてのポテトチップスはいかがですか？？

カルビー・プラスでは、目の前で作った揚げたてのポテトチップスをその場で頂くことができます。こんなお店はきっと日本にしかないと思います。ポテットチップスは平面状にスライスした「うす切りFlat」と、波状にスライスした「厚切りWavey」の２種類が選べます。お好みでトッピングを追加注文する形式です。私は波状にスライスした「厚切りWavey」に塩バターのトッピングにしてみました。初めて食べる揚げたてのポテトチップスは、あたたかくてサックサクでした。トッピングの種類が豊富なので、違う味を試しにまた来るのもありだと思います。上の写真に写っているのがMサイズで、220円です。Lサイズは280円です。トッピングはものによって値段が違っていました。

こちらでは普段見かけない味のポテトチップスも販売しています。また、お店自体は狭いのですが、2階にはテーブル席があるので落ち着いて食べることも出来ます。私が訪れた時はオープン直後の2011年12月だった事もあって、とても込み合っていました。場所が竹下通りなので原宿周辺に行ったついでに寄ってみてください。

Welcome to Tokyo Eats. Good food is my favorite simple pleasure – and when it comes to good food, the city of Tokyo definitely does it best. In fact, there are more three-star Michelin rated restaurants in Japan than in France (or anywhere else in the world for that matter). Since my two biggest passions are eating and taking pictures, I decided to start a blog on what I do best and share all my favorite places in and around Tokyo! My hope is that this blog will give you a taste of the happiness that comes from the art of eating.

The cafe shown above, ‘nR Table’, is located in Omotesando – a neighborhood with lots of cute boutiques, high-end luxury stores, and lots of happening cafes and restaurants. nR Table is slightly off the main street in this area and is on the 3rd floor of a clothing store. The ambiance is both soft and light, with comfortable and natural wooden tables and chairs. It’s a nice and cozy place to go with friends to chitchat and enjoy some slow time after a long day of shopping.

PS: The girl in the top picture is not me – she is my friend, who you will probably see frequently on my blog.

Tokyo Eatsへようこそ。食べること、旅することが大好きで、いろんな国を訪れては食べ歩いてきましたが、東京はグルメ好きにとっては最高の場所だと思っています。高級レストランからB級グルメまで、世界中の人たちが日本の食に注目する理由が少しわかるような気がします。実際に東京はフランスよりもミシュラン３つ星のレストランが多いことをご存知ですか？このブログを始めたきっかけは、海外に住んでいる友達や知り合いにガイドブックからの日本ではなく、東京に住む一般人からの視線、生活観、などをシェアできたらいいなと思い始めました。ブログは英語で書いていますが、私の撮る写真から食べることの喜び＆幸せを感じられたら嬉しいです。そしてあくまで個人の視点ですが、食べることが好きな方にとって少しでも有益な情報になれば幸いです。

こちらのカフェは、表参道にある‘nR Table’です。表参道はおしゃれなお店、ハイブランド・ショップ、素敵なカフェやレストランが数多くありますが、このお店は表参道から一本入った小さな洋服屋の3Fに入っています。自然光が差し込む優しい雰囲気の店内には、木のテーブルに座り心地の良い椅子が並んでいます。のんびりお茶をしつつお喋りしたり、お買いもの途中の休憩にもちょうど良いカフェです。
