Brooklyn Parlor is a really cool space located underground in the Shijuku 3-chome. The vibe is really nice as it’s decorated with red bricks, wood tables, multi-colored chairs and lots of books. This place accommodates everyone – anywhere from a single guest to large groups since it’s an unusually massive space for Tokyo.

We looked around and many people were eating the burger so we had to get one. Pictured above are the ‘Avocado & Chedder Cheese Burger’, the ‘Grilled Bacon & Scrambled Egg Burger’, and the ‘Mushroom & Mozzarella Burger’ all for 1575yen each (including fries and a salad). The burgers were all really tasty and we enjoyed the ambiance, food, and company. We dined here on a Saturday during lunch time and it was a very crowded day so we were limited to only a 2 hr stay but the food came fast so we didn’t feel rushed.

The other dishes also looked good, going to have to come back for sure.

Another yummy curry place in Gakudai. VOVO curry opened in April 2013 and is making a name for itself with its spicy curry (beef curry) as well as its other deliciously flavored curry. I saw this place on TV so I decided to check it out. It’s a small shop but it has some nice retro touches.

The curry is only 1000yen during lunch time and it comes with a small side salad. During lunchtime you can order the combo for 1000yen and try 2 flavors of curry. We both ordered the veggie + butter chicken combo. Both curries were very tasty and I really enjoyed the flavors. I don’t know how they make the rice and two different flavors of curry look so nice on one plate but the presentation was perfection. The portions are rather small so we felt that it wasn’t quite enough food for us. The little condiments on the side were also good and are spice + pickles to go with your rice.

I still love sync curry a bit more but this is a new spot that is not to be missed!

Osuri is a new Korean Fusion restaurant that opened in Gaienmae. All their dishes use a lot of fresh veggies and a variety of different ingredients. We were impressed with the price point on their lunch sets, all of this for an average of just 1000yen? We ordered the ‘Bulgogi lunch set’ (1000yen), ‘Samgyeopsal lunch set’ (1000yen), and the ‘Samgyetang lunch set’ (1200yen). If you are hungry, I recommend ordering the Bulgogi lunch set since you get more meat than the samgyeopsal set. They all come with soup and a choice of white or brown rice with several bite-sized side dishes and a small dessert at the end. Everything was tasty but I recommend the samgyeopsal at ondoru more. If you are near Gaienmae, this might be a nice lunch option. Btw, this place happens to be right across the street from A&G diner (one of the highest-rated burger places in Tokyo).

Note* Osuri is closed on Sundays.

Did we get lucky? We only had to wait two minutes to eat here!

Our friend happens to live right by this popular tsukemen/ramen place so we decided to try it. Fu-unji is famous for their 濃厚鶏白+魚介 soup, a condensed white chicken + fish broth soup (feels heavy on the bonito flavor). Although I’m not typically into fish broths, since their soup is a mixture of both chicken and fish, the fishiness wasn’t as strong as I expected so I surprisingly enjoyed it. The noodles were also very good in both the flavoring and texture.

When you first enter, you will see a machine where you can purchase a ticket based on what you want to eat. Once your turn comes, you will be asked to hand them your ticket and specify the amount of noodles you want.

Your options for noodles are (Same price for all):
– Namimori/並盛 — small
– Chuumori/中盛 — medium
– Oomori/大盛 — large
If you want your noodles to stay warm, you can order them “astumori” but keep in mind that if you are a slow eater, the noodles will elongate.

I ordered the Tokusei Tsukemen (特製つけめん) for 950yen with chuumori noodles. My girlfriend got the regular tsukemen with namimori noodles. The ramen was 700yen which was so/so according to our friend who always orders the tsukemen here. If you come here, I definitely recommend you to try their famous tokusei tsukemen first.

This is another Aoyama Flower Market Tea House type of cafe that is located in Aoyama/Omotesando. Nicolai Bergmann, a florist from Denmark, is known for his contemporary flower arrangements and he has a cafe inside of his beautiful flagship store in Tokyo. As soon as you walk into the flower shop/cafe, you feel like you’re surrounded by beautiful flower arrangements and greenery that are contemporary modern chic.

This garden cafe offers simple lunch options such as sandwiches and salads. My friend and I both chose the sandwich lunch set which comes with soup of the day, a small salad, drink, and a choice of sandwich for 1470yen. The open face sandwich set includes 2 open face sandwiches, the soup of the day, a small salad and drink for 1575yen. Everything we had was seasoned and flavored well. Loved every bite of it. If you enjoy beautiful flower arrangements, want to get a nice gift, or just simple enjoy greenery and tasty sandwiches, stop by here.
