Brooklyn Ribbon Fries is one of the stores inside of 246 COMMON, a hip outdoor mobile/trailer community in the middle of Omotesando. We couldn’t help but notice these curly ribbon fries as we were passing by so we ordered the Small “spicy ribbon fries” for 500yen and it took about 5~10min for it to be served. The wait felt a little long but it was definitely worth it. We added some mayo on top of these crispy warm ribbon fries and they were so good. Even though we ordered the spicy one, they weren’t really spicy at all. Either way, this is a perfect street food snack in the middle of the cold winter and it made us happy.

{ Imokin – 芋きん }

Are you a sweet potato fan? If so, you’ll love this. This Japanese dessert is filled with condensed sweet potato and it only lasts 24hrs from when you purchase it at the store! It’s best eaten freshly-made when it’s crispy on the outside and warm in the inside. If you save it for later, they suggest you toast it first. Give it a try if you’re ever near an “Imo-kin” shop. There’s multiple locations with the main shop in Asakusa as well as one inside of Haneda Airport. I happened to go to the one in Ueno inside of the Matsuzakaya building so that’s the one pictured here.

{ Moomin Shop }

Opened on December 6, 2012, this Moomin Shop is the first official brand shop to open in Japan. Located inside of Dogwood Plaza in Futakotamagawa, it’s located on the 2nd floor right off the escalator. For those of you who don’t know Moomin, it’s a central character in a series of books and comic strip by a Swedish-Finn illustrator and has been very popular here in Japan for a long time. The shop has the cutest items along with a small coffee corner where you can order lattes for 550yen with a choice of your favorite Moomin character on top of the foam drawn with coco powder. The coffee was surprisingly good so I wasn’t dissapointed despite having to pay 550yen for a latte. This is a great place to come for Moomin fans.

Is this really Tokyo? You’d never guess this Thai/Vietnamese restaurant is located in Omotesando. This place is in a small side alley but it’s still very popular amongst locals so you might have to stand in line. Pictured above are the spring rolls (310yen/per roll), pad thai (780yen), tom yam kun noodles (950yen), and gapao rice (990yen). I’m not sure if they are authentic flavors, but it sure was tasty and I really liked this Asian street market vibe. They also have a take out menu/section on the side of the restaurant so you can order to go as well.

{ Chum Apartments }

Chum Apartments is a hidden cafe in the middle of a residential area in Meguro. Apparently they are often closed during the day time due to photo/magazine shoots or other special events because of their really cute ambiance. I would say it’s a mixture of Asian, Morrocan and modern decor. It’s an interesting cafe as you can come here for a variety of different occasions. Most come here for lunch, tea time, or dinner. However, there’s also a sushi bar, a shop on the 2nd floor, and you can even get married here! (it’s open for events).

My friend and I came here for tea and it was relaxing, chill, and spacious. It’s the kind of cafe where you can stay at for hours without being bothered. We both had the chai latte that came with honey for 700yen. It was yummy. We didn’t eat any food this time but what we saw looked pretty good. Loved the ambiance & decor. There were a wide range of customers from individuals just reading a book, girlfriends chit chatting, to strollers with moms and couples enjoying their afternoon together. The only thing I didn’t like is that they allow smoking inside. Regardless, check it out if you are nearby!
