I’ve been wanting to dine here for a while now and I finally got to check it out. This restaurant is in Roppongi Hills and although it looks super fancy from the outside, the concept is “Mother’s homemade dishes”. And they literally do bring out very common Japanese home-style meals including 2 small side dishes of your choice. It also seemed like they hired elder mom-like ladies to bring out the food to make you feel like you’re at home?! The name of the restaurant actually means “Mother’s Dining Room”.

Their lunch menu is rather simple and has everyone’s favorite dishes such as curry, tonkatsu, fish, hamburg, etc and they are all under or around 1000yen! There’s also a “healthy lunch” option so if you are on a diet, you can still eat here. It’s really a great deal in this high-end building and beautiful space. The juxtaposition of the concept and the ambiance is a little ironic but it’s a nice and easy place to grab a meal so check it out if you’re in the area.

If you are craving for good pizza, come to Frey’s. You won’t be dissapointed. Their Bianca pizza is one of our all-time favorite pizza’s ever.

Frey’s serves only 3 kinds of traditional Italian pizza’s, but they have truly mastered the flavors. The Margherita, Marinara, and Bianca pizza’s are each sold for 1500yen. Each pizza is not that big so one person can easily finish an entire pizza on their own. Our favorite hands down is the Bianca, but their Margherita is also quite good. I recommend making reservations as this place gets packed with locals.

Randy is tucked away in a corner right next to the Spanish Embassy – very close to Roppongi-Itchome station in Tokyo. The food is good and the portions are quite generous. They are best known for their “Randy Katsu Sando” (Katsu Sandwich) which has shrimp katsu, avocado, tomato, and tartar sauce for 1400yen. It’s delicious and it packs a little kick with a slightly spicy mustard sauce. The picture above shows the half salad half Randy Katsu Sando which is 1200yen. Their “Marche Salad Plate” goes for 1400yen and includes the soup of the day, bread, and salad. The Randy plate changes daily and costs 1500yen.

I saw several foreigners, a group of housewives tea-ing, salary-men, and a few couples –  overall a well-rounded group of people at this cafe. I would like to sit at the outside patio on a sunny day when the spring-time comes.

It’s Japan Restaurant Week (January 27-February 19) here in Japan and we decided to try out a restaurant we’ve been wanting to check out for a while now. Japan Restaurant week happens only twice a year in Japan and it allows you to try out trendy restaurants for a reasonable price. If there’s a restaurant you’ve been wanting to try, check out their website and see if they are participating in restaurant week!

We checked out The French Kitchen inside of the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Roppongi Hills and it was a great experience. The food was good, the service was great, the place is beautiful and we got to dine for a discounted price. What more can you ask for? :)
