Brooklyn Parlor is a really cool space located underground in the Shijuku 3-chome. The vibe is really nice as it’s decorated with red bricks, wood tables, multi-colored chairs and lots of books. This place accommodates everyone – anywhere from a single guest to large groups since it’s an unusually massive space for Tokyo.

We looked around and many people were eating the burger so we had to get one. Pictured above are the ‘Avocado & Chedder Cheese Burger’, the ‘Grilled Bacon & Scrambled Egg Burger’, and the ‘Mushroom & Mozzarella Burger’ all for 1575yen each (including fries and a salad). The burgers were all really tasty and we enjoyed the ambiance, food, and company. We dined here on a Saturday during lunch time and it was a very crowded day so we were limited to only a 2 hr stay but the food came fast so we didn’t feel rushed.

The other dishes also looked good, going to have to come back for sure.

Hawaii + pancakes are both booming in Japan right now so you can imagine that Hawaiian pancake places are basically assured success here. Island Vintage Coffee is another one of these which opened at the end of August in Aoyama/Omotesando area and serves Kau Coffee from Hawaii. The Hawaiian coffee and the Acai bowl seem to be the 2 most popular items here. When we went, about 80% of the guests were eating the Acai bowl. We were hungry, so we opted for the chicken pesto sandwich instead for 1200yen and the Iced Hawaiian Honey Latte(L) for 650yen. The coffee was expensive but I’d have to say it was pretty good and the sandwich wasn’t bad either. The side salad was nothing special.

Come here for a light snack and Hawaiian style coffee if you’re in the neighborhood.

Another yummy curry place in Gakudai. VOVO curry opened in April 2013 and is making a name for itself with its spicy curry (beef curry) as well as its other deliciously flavored curry. I saw this place on TV so I decided to check it out. It’s a small shop but it has some nice retro touches.

The curry is only 1000yen during lunch time and it comes with a small side salad. During lunchtime you can order the combo for 1000yen and try 2 flavors of curry. We both ordered the veggie + butter chicken combo. Both curries were very tasty and I really enjoyed the flavors. I don’t know how they make the rice and two different flavors of curry look so nice on one plate but the presentation was perfection. The portions are rather small so we felt that it wasn’t quite enough food for us. The little condiments on the side were also good and are spice + pickles to go with your rice.

I still love sync curry a bit more but this is a new spot that is not to be missed!

This is another Aoyama Flower Market Tea House type of cafe that is located in Aoyama/Omotesando. Nicolai Bergmann, a florist from Denmark, is known for his contemporary flower arrangements and he has a cafe inside of his beautiful flagship store in Tokyo. As soon as you walk into the flower shop/cafe, you feel like you’re surrounded by beautiful flower arrangements and greenery that are contemporary modern chic.

This garden cafe offers simple lunch options such as sandwiches and salads. My friend and I both chose the sandwich lunch set which comes with soup of the day, a small salad, drink, and a choice of sandwich for 1470yen. The open face sandwich set includes 2 open face sandwiches, the soup of the day, a small salad and drink for 1575yen. Everything we had was seasoned and flavored well. Loved every bite of it. If you enjoy beautiful flower arrangements, want to get a nice gift, or just simple enjoy greenery and tasty sandwiches, stop by here.

San Francisco Peaks

San Francisco Peaks serves American-style breakfast/brunch food such as pancakes, omelets and burgers but it doesn’t really have much to do with San Francisco in my opinion. The restaurant is very nicely designed and we enjoyed the ambiance. Seems like most people order the pancakes here but the burgers are tasty too. Since the building is 2 stories high, we didn’t have to wait much in line when we got there even though it was 1pm on a Sunday.

We ordered the Avocado Mozzarella Burger for 1350yen and the Buttermilk Pancake with homemade sausage (we chose the ‘Pork Mexicano Chipotle & Smoked Cheese’ Sausage) for 1200yen. Everything was tasty and we enjoyed our meal but the portions were rather small and not exactly “Californian size”.

The restaurant is located in a great area, with easy access to Harajuku/Omotesando/Meijijingumae so you can enjoy shopping and cafe hopping in the area. When we went, it was filled with families, couples and some single guests so it’s a really easy and casual place that anyone can enjoy.
