Found a good coffee shop. “On the corner” is literally on the corner of a quieter part of Shibuya. Unlike the scramble cross-walk which is constantly filled with people, this is located in a quiet place where hipsters and young adults come to sip on good coffee, chit chat, and get some work done on their laptops. Their coffee is great and they have free wifi as well so it’s a nice spot to hang out. I don’t know why but the vibe of this place really reminds me of Portland Oregon, a city that I love.

PS: I’ll have to try their food and do a post on it in the near future

Mi Corazon is a Mexican joint tucked away in a quiet area a short walk from Nakameguro station. They are famous for their burgers and the “Mi Corazon Burger” (1500yen) was delicious. It has avocado, cheese, salsa, and chilibeans and it’s really tasty. We almost thought it might be better than Blacows but if you just taste the patty on it’s own, the 100% wagyu beef from Blacows is unbeatable… However, if you’re hungry for a burger with a mexican twist, definitely check out this place. Unfortunately their french fries were just OK but their fajitas were tasty.

Bloom's Cafe

Jiyugaoka is one of my favorite towns in Tokyo and I love discovering new cafes and restaurants in this area. I recently picked up a magazine issue that features places to eat along the Toyoko train line so I am planning to try a bunch of places from these neighborhoods :) As a side note, foreigners in Tokyo tend to live near the Roppongi, Azabujuban, and Hiroo areas. On the other hand, living along the Toyoko-line and the Denentoshi-line tend to be the most popular among young Japanese adults.

Anyhow, Bloom’s cafe is a tiny cafe in Jiyugaoka that seats only 9 people so it may be hard to find a seat on weekends or during lunch time. Bloom’s specializes in baked sweets so we decided to try their Quiche Plate (1000yen) and their Cake salé Plate (1000yen). The ambiance was very cozy and there was a grandma dinning by herself in one seat and 2 young girls tea-ing at another table. It’s places like this that make Jiyugaoka so loveable.

Shibazakura Festival
Shibazakura Festival

Just wanted to thank everyone who has been following my blog, liked us on facebook, emailed me, tweeted about us, gave me restaurant recommendations to try, etc. Very excited to hear from my readers and appreciate all the support :) Gives me the motivation to keep posting!

Today, I wanted to share with you a beautiful Shibazakura Festival that is going on in Yamanashi-prefecture until May 27th. (It was supposed to end this weekend but it got extended due to the late blooming of the flowers). Unfortunately it was overcast on the day we went… so we couldn’t see Mt. Fuji, but if you go on a clear day, it should be an amazing view with some great photo opportunities. If you get hungry, they have some food options there but not a whole lot of selection.

PS: For those of you who live in Japan or who are thinking about moving to Japan, check out this awesome site which has some great articles about Japan: survivingnjapan.com.

Tokyu Hands in Shibuya recently opened a new cafe on the 7th floor called Hands Cafe. Recently, we’ve been making multiple trips to Tokyu Hands to buy a bunch of stuff for our place and we got exhausted from going up and down the store. That’s when we noticed that there’s a cafe on the 7th floor so we decided to check it out. What a pleasant surprise, the cafe was beautifully decorated in a mesh of hip-stylish-techy-cozy all together and we really enjoyed snacking here during a much needed break.

Tokyu Hands is one of my favorite places to go shopping for everything and anything and I highly recommend to check out their earthquake protection section if you are living in Japan. Anyhow, Tokyu Hands Shibuya seems to have recently done a significant makeover and it looks a lot nicer with more rest areas on every floor. love that.
