祝!東京オリンピック・パラリンピック開催決定!

Today is a very exciting day for Japan. The IOC announced that the 2020 Olympics will be held in Tokyo. The media has been covering this exciting news non-stop and I can’t help but be excited and happy for my country too. In a time of many challenges, this news brings hope and excitement, and I believe it’ll go a long way to helping Japan recover and return to prosperity. I’m certain that it will inspire even more amazing eats and places to visit too. Hope to cover them as much as I can :D

In the mood for Mexican food?

Mucho Modern Mexicano is a lively restaurant joint with a bar counter which is located on the 2nd floor of a business building in Marunouchi near Tokyo Station / Yurakucho. Filled with large groups and many guests sipping on corona beers, this place is a fun and easy going place with good service that will satisfy your hunger.

As soon as I saw the menu, I realized that this place is owned by the same group which created Hacienda Del Cielo from Daikanyama and their menu was also very similar. We had lunch here over the weekend and had the “Holiday Lunch Menu” which comes with a starter, salad of your choice, main dish, drink, and a small dessert for 1500yen. I have to say it’s quite filling and a generous portion. Pictured above is the beef burrito and the chicken fajitas (we liked the chicken fajitas more).

If you are looking for a Mexican joint near Tokyo Station, check this place out.

“KITTE” is a new mall produced by the Japan Postal Service which opened this past Spring. Kitte means ‘stamp’ in Japanese and this building/mall is one of the most happening places right now especially opening right in front of the newly renovated Tokyo Station. It’s been a few months since the opening and the long lines have calmed down a bit so now might be a good time to go check it out.

Marunouchi Reading Style is located inside KITTE on the 4th floor. It’s a cafe/book store/shop all-in-one. The cafe serves small meals, desserts and refreshments so it’s an easy spot to take a break. The best part of this cafe is, you can read any books from the store at your table while you are dining at the cafe. There’s even an area to return your books to when you’re done reading them.

Might be fun to check out both Tokyo Station and KITTE on the same day and enjoy a nice afternoon here since they’re so close to each other.

Hashida Honten (はし田本店) is originally from Kyushuu and is located on the Keyakizaka side of Roppongi Hills. Their noodles are hand-made and they even use an old-school technique which involves stepping on them to get the perfect texture and firmness. Hashida Honten is also unique because they have a wine sommelier. You might wonder if udon and wine go well together but this may be your dream spot if you like them both. The restaurant is beautifully designed with a modern Japanese touch, and it’s one of my favorite hidden gems right now.

Pictured above is their “Shamo dashi (chicken broth) udon” (軍鶏だしうどん) for 1000yen. The soup is just so good, it’s a simple dish for people who really want to enjoy “udon”. The umeboshi (sour plum) is a nice palate cleanser as well.

Also pictured above is their “Shamo seiro and Chirashi-sushi Lunch Special” (軍鶏せいろとちらし寿司セット) for 1500yen. If you are hungry, this set will definitely satisfy you. You eat the udon tsukemen-style and the Chirashi-sushi that includes their dashimaki tamago is also yummm.

This udon restaurant is hard to find (Google maps is not exactly right on this location), you have to go to the Keyakizaka side of Roppongi hills and walk towards the back of the building near the Roppongi Hills Residences. Hope you get to try this place because it’s simply delicious.

Note: Lunch menu during the weekday has changed to only 2 options. 1200yen or 1500yen lunch sets. (Updated 2013.9.13)

Summer Fun 2013

2013 Summer in Japan has been one of the hottest summers ever. Shimanto, Kouchi has had a record breaking 41C heat + an unprecedented 4 consecutive days of 40C weather. Tokyo has been miserably hot as well but it seems to have finally calming down a bit. Here’s a glimpse of my summer fun. Hope everyone had a nice summer :)
