Unbelievable cost performance! An A5-rank Kurogewagyu-beef lunch set for
1300yen 1500yen! in Roppongi.
If you are looking for the best lunch deal with a great traditional Japanese lunch experience, come here. This place is so popular that even though we arrived here by 11:40am, only 10 minutes after they opened, it was already full. We waited about 40 minutes until we got a seat, and many people were giving up standing in line as an employee came out to tell them how long it would be until the next seating. It’s nice because most of the seating is in private rooms with a traditional tatami setting.
Places like this are popular for a reason. How can you offer something like this for only
1300yen 1500yen! The meat was a little rare for my taste but my friends all loved it. You start by tasting the beef on it’s own first. Then, you’re supposed to enjoy it along with the condiments that come with it on the side. As you eat your rice, you’ll discover another layer of meat underneath it. After some time the servers bring you more rice to finish off your dish as Hitsumabushi (ochazuke style). The hot dashi poured over the rice and meat is like an entirely new dish. YUMM. Definitely give this a try if you’re in the area, you won’t regret it.
Note: Closed on Sundays. Lunch service: 11:30am-2pm (Often closes early as the lunch set sells out)
Update: Looks like their Hitsumabushi lunch set now costs 1300yen (May, 2014).

Did you know that you could pick up an A5 rank wagyu-beef bento by “Yazawa Meat” & “Blacows” at Tokyo Station?!
In case you are not familiar with this amazing wagyu-beef restaurant joint, they are famous for serving their A5 rank wagyu-beef (the highest grade given only to the finest beef) that is oh so tasy. “Yazawa Meat” in Gotanda specializes in hamburgs and steaks while “Blacows” in Ebisu serves delicious hamburgers.
We happened to be by Tokyo Station over the weekend so we decided to pick up a Yazawa Meat bento box for dinner. I’ve been wanting to give this a try and I was surprised to see that the Blacows takeout section had pretty much the same burgers available for take-out as the real shop. It’s perfect for those who are close to Tokyo station to just get their hamburger fix here.
I then walked over to the Yazawa Meat side and I was immediately sold on the hamburg bento box with egg. The customer in front of us got the “Double hamburg without rice” bento box for 2580yen and after going through all the options, we decided to do the same. After about a 15min wait, we got our warm bento box and headed back home.
The smell of the bento was killing me throughout my train ride… Once we got home, I opened it up and it looked OK. The bento was still slightly warm but decided to heat it for maybe 10 seconds or so and ate it with the 2 sauces that came with it. I am happy to report that it was yummms. The hamburg was very juicy & soft and the sauce went perfectly with everything. Loved every bite of it.
Their original restaurant location is famously crowded with long lines so if you want to try this delicious meat without too long of a wait and you happen to be passing by Tokyo Station right before dinner time, definitely stop by and pick up your bento box here.
PS: Tokyo Station is very confusing/complicated so if you need directions, ask where Daimaru (department store) is and then go to their B1 food floor.

Ginza Yoshizawa is known for their high quality wagyu-beef. A food journalist recommended this place on TV saying that you won’t find a restaurant that serves this level of high quality meat for this price in Tokyo. Since it looked delicious on tv… we decided to check it out.
We got the limited edition hamburg set that they only serve 10 plates per day (barely got it even though we got there 5min after the restaurant opened) + the Sukiyaki lunch set, both for 1575yen. Each set includes: all you can eat white rice, Japanese pickles, miso soup, a small salad, and fresh fruit (apple). We enjoyed both of our meals and we were quite full. Regardless, If you’re in the Ginza area and want an authentic Japanese-style lunch for this price, this is a solid choice.

In Japan, there are many famous high-quality meats – including Kobe Beef, Matsuzaka-gyu, etc. And then there is ‘Yazawa meat’, and A5 rank wagyu-beef. Blacows is a burger joint that uses strictly Yazawa meat and it is SO GOOD. The combination of their meat, bun (specially made by Maison Kayser!), and sauces makes the most mouth watering burger I’ve had yet. I used to love Mos Burger (a popular fast food burger place in Japan), but after having Blacows, it’s just not the same anymore… the quality and taste are at a completely different level. I’ve also tried some other popular burger joints in town such as ‘Burger Mania’, but none of them have beat Blacows in my book. This place has consistently been a crowd-pleaser for all of our friends, and I highly recommend that you try it too.
If it’s your first time, you should try their signature Bacon Cheese Avocado Burger, you won’t regret it. Since I’ve gone so many times, I keep on changing the ingredients I choose inside. Their cobb salad is good as well. To my friends in California, this beats In-N-Out burgers!!
