Ginza Yoshizawa is known for their high quality wagyu-beef. A food journalist recommended this place on TV saying that you won’t find a restaurant that serves this level of high quality meat for this price in Tokyo. Since it looked delicious on tv… we decided to check it out.

We got the limited edition hamburg set that they only serve 10 plates per day (barely got it even though we got there 5min after the restaurant opened) + the Sukiyaki lunch set, both for 1575yen. Each set includes: all you can eat white rice, Japanese pickles, miso soup, a small salad, and fresh fruit (apple). We enjoyed both of our meals and we were quite full. Regardless, If you’re in the Ginza area and want an authentic Japanese-style lunch for this price, this is a solid choice.

Oh my! We were walking through Ginza and couldn’t help but stop to find where this sweet smell was coming from. We noticed it was coming from this small Belgian waffle store named Manneken and there was a small line out the door. Just like us, many on-goers couldn’t help but stop to check out this store as well and the line kept getting longer. We waited a few minutes and got to the counter and decided to try the plain (126yen) and the maple (147yen) waffles. Both were delicious! Soft and chewy, not too sweet but sweet enough, and the sugar coating on the sides were yummy. Can’t believe I’ve never noticed this place until now but hightly recommend it for a treat :)

Sukiyaki is a type of Japanese cuisine in which thinly sliced beef and vegetables are mixed and cooked slowly in a shallow iron pot. The meat and veggies are then dipped in to a small bowl of raw egg for the traditional Sukiyaki flavor and texture. Kakiyasu in Ginza serves a perfected authentic and delicious sukiyaki. Ladies dressed in kimonos give you such a proper and Japanese experience from beginning to end. I definitely recommend coming here if you want to try something traditional and delicious.

We couldn’t resist the sukiyaki lunch set that included a dessert for 2100yen. There was another sukiyaki lunch set for 1500yen but apparently the quality of meat they serve in the 2100yen course is higher + it comes with dessert so we decided to splurge a little. It almost felt like it wasn’t going to be enough meat when the plate first arrived, but it was the right amount overall with all the veggies hidden under the meat + the all you can eat rice. Highly recommend it. The sorbet dessert also provided the perfect balance to clean our palettes after the strong flavors of the sukiyaki.

Have you checked out the new UNIQLO store in Ginza? It is a beautiful 12 story building that just opened a few weeks ago. They made it look like their flagship Soho Store in NY and it’s quite overwhelming/amazing. On the 7th floor of the building, there’s a bridge which connects to the building across the street. The building it connects to is called Dover Street Market by COMME des GARCONS, and it’s where Rose Bakery is located.  Rose Bakery is an English cafe from London that just opened on March 16th, 2012.

The cafe has a very open space with a modern clean feel. It’s a great place to relax after some shopping at uniqlo or for just tea and a snack :) Their teas and coffees are slightly expensive but their presentation is beautiful. The most appealing thing about this place, however, is their desserts. You can get european/american treats which are very difficult to find in Japan such as carrot cakes, sour cream muffins, tea cakes, and more! I wanted to eat everything there but we decided to try the Green Tea Layer Cake (550yen) and the Lemon Polenta Tea Cake (400yen). You can also get the “Cream Tea” special for 1600yen which includes a scone, your choice of pastry, and your choice of drink. They also have a “High Tea” special (2800yen) which includes a mini sandwich, mini quiche, mini scone, fruit salad, 5 pastries, and your choice of drink. Definitely planning to come back here again soon.

If you ever crave traditional Japanese sweets such as anmitsu, check out Ginza Tatsutano on chuo-street. Pictured above are the “Ogura Shiratama Anmitsu” (1100yen), “Yoyogimochi Anmitsu” (1000yen) with an extra topping of green tea ice cream (160yen) and the “Kuzumochi Kinako Anmitsu” (1000yen). They were all very authentic and perfectly satisfied our tea time craving :)
