Nakamura Tokichi is a restaurant/cafe located in Uji, Kyoto. Uji has become quite famous for their Matcha/green tea and Nakamura Tokichi is one of the most popular places to dine in the area. They serve meals such as matcha soba as well as matcha sweets in a very traditional setting/ambiance. Since the main branch and the nearby Byodoin branch are walking distance from each other, you can choose to dine at one or the other depending on which has a longer wait. We actually ended up going to the Main branch first but it was way too crowded so we walked over to the Byodoin branch and got a seat right away.
We ordered the matcha soba noodle lunch set for 1100yen and the seasonal cha soba special lunch set for 1200yen. The set comes with rice, pickles, and a small dessert as well. Everything was tasty and enjoyed our meal. Both locations are beautifully designed so I think you would enjoy either one. Don’t miss this place if you are near Uji, Kyoto.

Dear Maki san,
I really enjoy coming to your blog. Your pictures are wonderfully taken (what camera do you use?) and you also give a fair and balance comment on the place you visit. I will go to the bakery places you recommend while in Tokyo in Dec. It is a shame that Floresta Donut is too far away from downtown Tokyo. I would love to try them. It looks so good. I am also grateful you always post the map and the correct address. I will be using google maps in Tokyo this time. I am sure finding the places you recommend will be very easy!!
have a good day.
Regards
Jason
Thank you! Where or what area is considered downtown Tokyo? (never heard of it…) Floresta Donuts has a few location in Tokyo so you might be able to find a location near by. Perhaps Azabujuban? Google maps works pretty well in Tokyo but not 100% so be careful! I mostly shoot with the Canon S100 or the Canon 5DmarkII when I have my DSLR with me.
This looks AMAZING!!! Smoke free inside by any chance?
Both locations are smoke free.
Dear Maki,
To most tourist, Tokyo largely meant Shinjuku (around the train station), Shibuya (around the train station), Harakuju (around the train station, OK you got it). Tokyo is more than that.
I am hopeful that in this trip, I will be able to make it farther outside the 3 km radius of the train station! Nice post on the Machiya cafe in Kyoto. I will also not miss the Malebranche cafe you recommended. It is within 3KM of a train station :-)
Regards
Jason
